the "Testament" which had been got ready for that night also would not be held. But before he had finished what

he had i say, the Captain Superintendent of Police went up, interrupted him and made him descend from the stage.

At the same time the Chief Assistant Secretary for Chinese Affairs claimed that time was up, and ordered the meeting to be dismissed. He sent the detectives and policemen up the stage to drive the platform party off. The audience

was also sent out of the meeting place, and not allowed to linger any longer. And in fact his actions in this respect were so violent as to be comparable only to those of a wolf or a tiger. Filled with feelings of sadness and pain,

but having no other means to vent their anger, the crowd

loudly cried out slogans, and some of them were so much

aggrieved that they wept until they had no voice left.

The platform party, seeing that the audience was so

indignant and fearing that trouble similar to that in

Shakee and on May the 30th might arise in the Garden

did their utmost to admonish and pacify it. Luckily the

audience maintained good order throughout the day and

retired at their ease, although they had been dispersed

by force. All Chinese in Hong Kong after such an act of

oppression are rankling under this painful treatment,

and now realies that if such harsh regulations as the se are not cancelled, there will be even greater oppression

put on them in the future. Therefore be sides again

sending a pre representative to Canton to make a report

to the Foreign Office of the Nationalist Government asking

that a grave protest should be made, they have sworn to fight

vigorously against the harsh regulations that have never

existed before at home or abroad, and they will not relax

their efforts until they have achieved their object.
